CUNY City College of Technology - New Mixed-Use Academic Building

Brooklyn, NY

Ellana provided cost estimating services at all stages of design for the new academic building at CUNY’s City College of Technology (formerly known as “City Tech”).  The project is located directly across the street from the college’s main campus in the downtown business district of Brooklyn. The new academic building comprises of  approximately 350,000sf of academic program, including: 27,200 sf for biology and anatomy laboratories and research space, 2,000 - 4,000 sf for the Nursing Department, 9,150 sf for chemistry laboratories and research space, dental and vision clinics, computer labs, 1,000-seat new theatre (auditorium), a new gymnasium, and a minimum of 18 parking spaces.

The new structure will also tie into the existing mechanical plant in the Namm Building across the street.  This involves digging a trench across the busy Jay Street below the surface of the roadway and above the A,C, & F subway lines below.  The foundations for the new building is also adjacent to the above mentioned subway lines and careful attention is paid to the line of influence of the existing subway tunnels during our review and preparation of the estimate.
