Columbia University - Manhattanville Campus Expansion

New York, NY

The new Columbia University campus will occupy two city blocks featuring: 18 buildings for science, academic, residential, and recreational facilities with seven levels of supporting underground facilities over 17 acres of prime Upper Manhattan real estate. This project involved performing cost estimating services in the initial planning stage of the development of the below-grade scope, which itself totals nearly 2 million square foot. These services included programmatic estimating, conceptual cost evaluations of the various design options, and proper cost allocations among proposed users.

Working with Gleeds New York, the estimates we prepared were extensive and detailed, requiring approximately ten (10) alternates for the below-grade construction, including several thicknesses of slurry wall foundation, conventional basement wall construction, top-down methods for construction, column-free spaces with long-span trusses, and multiple phasing options.
