South Street Seaport Museum

New York, NY

Through a long-term ground lease with the City of New York, the South Street Seaport Museum headquarters operates at 12 Fulton Street in the historic Schermerhorn Row. The museum also manages letter-press printing offices and gallery space at 207-215 Water Street, and has a license to oversee Pier 16, where the historic ships are located. The museum’s main location is a designated New York City and State landmark located in the South Street Seaport Historic District which is also on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum’s base building systems (electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire safety) and pier facilities were severely damaged or destroyed in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy. Although some temporary repairs were made, the bulk of the base building systems were still not operational because of the complexities of the interconnected infrastructure between buildings with different addresses that have been installed and modified over the last 50 years.

Ellana served as cost estimator on the design team led by Marvel to rehabilitate the MEP and life safety systems at several buildings. Our cost estimates included new stairs with steel support, vertical transportation, ADA lifts, environmental control units, masonry repair, and drywall.
