NYC AIDS Memorial at St. Vincent's Hospital Park
New York, NY
Ellana provided cost estimating services to the design team for New York City’s first freestanding memorial to the AIDS crisis on an approximately 1,600sf section of the new public open space, which is being constructed as part of the redevelopment of the former St. Vincent’s Hospital campus into a private residential complex. The new, iconic area will be a place for reflection, remembrance, celebration and learning; it will be a “living” memorial, that is organic, dynamic and celebrates the fragility of life, is one of the important underlying concepts of the design.
The open space will be constructed on an approximately 16,000sf triangular parcel bordered by 7th Avenue, 12th Street and Greenwich Avenue in New York City’s West Village neighborhood. The design and construction of the AIDS Memorial portion of the park is being managed by NYC AIDS Memorial Inc., a non-profit organization formed to advocate for the inclusion of a significant AIDS memorial in the redevelopment of the St. Vincent’s Hospital campus.
