Ellana provided cost estimating for a new correctional facility on a green field site in rural central Pennsylvania. The primary mission of the Berks County Correction Facility is confinement of: individuals going through the trial process, probation violators, those convicted and given short term (12 months or less) sentence, and individuals held on warrants from other jurisdictions. The new 1,372,000-square-foot correctional facility holds 974 beds. Some challenges during the estimating process includes working with inconsistent information regarding floor and departmental areas, accurate sitee or utility plan weren’t provided, and no outline building plans or elevations.
