The Boathouse at Canal Dock
Long Wharf, New Haven, CT
This project entails the construction of a community boathouse and multi-use public waterfront access area along the northern reach of New Haven Harbor, with the project site along the water’s edge. The pier development consists of a structural reinforced concrete, pile-supported platform and fixed-dock structure with a 58,200sf footprint supporting a two-story, 31,000sf boathouse; and associated marina dock structures for rowing activities, transient sailing, kayaks and motor boats. The new platform extends eastward from the existing steel bulkhead at Long Wharf Drive, with portions of the upland area adjacent to the site being improved to transition the existing upland to the platform. The new boathouse design incorporates a restored section of the original 1860s Adee Boathouse within the curtainwall-enclosed lobby space. Our services involve preparing distinct milestone estimates for the platform/floating docks and the boathouse throughout the design phase, advising on the cost implications for potential design options, value engineering and alternates.
