South Battery Park (SBPR) Resiliency
New York, NY
The SBPR Project is an integrated coastal protection initiative part of the overall LMCR Project aimed at reducing flood risk due to coastal storms and sea level rise in Lower Manhattan. The BMCR Project spans the Lower Manhattan coast from Jewish Heritage Museum to Battery Park and seeks to improve access to the waterfront and enhance public spaces in the community.
This project is a combination of the southernmost segment of the Battery Park City alignment and the Battery Coastal Resiliency alignment and involves the installation of 3 flood gates from Floodbreak auto-passive flood barriers. In addition, there will be wall construction at the same height as the flood gates, Secant Pile installation, jet grouting, landscape – hard/softscape work, & public amenities (such as a pavilion building) all across roughly five to seventeen thousand square feet of Manhattan. Some notable affected existing structures in the vicinity will be the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Wagner Hotel.
