Financial District (FiDi) & Seaport Climate Resilience Master Plan

New York, NY

Ellana provided cost estimates for the master plan for comprehensive flood defense infrastructure to protect Lower Manhattan, FiDi-Seaport area from the threat of climate change. This project will include floodwalls buried in landscape, tide gates, new pumping station, new public open spaces, resilient ferry terminals, and resilient piers for docking historic ships

The core design encompasses a multi-level waterfront that expands the East River shoreline by a maximum of 200 feet beyond its current position. The higher tier will be raised approximately 15 to 18 feet above ground level, serving a dual purpose as both a safeguard against intense storms like Sandy and a public area offering panoramic vistas of the city an d harbor. On the other hand, the lower tier will be a continuous waterfront promenade, elevated by three to five feet to counter the effects of rising sea levels and provide a seamless connection between New Yorkers and the shoreline.
