Henry Hudson Resurfacing of the Upper Level Roadway
Bronx, NY
Cost estimating for the replacement of a monolithic concrete overfill surface course with a new overlay on the upper level, between Bent No. 7 and Bent No. 72 of the Henry Hudson Bridge. The team estimated seven overlay alternatives, each with two different demolition options – 14 estimates total and 14 life-cycle analysis cases. Ellana also developed a construction schedule for each of the design alternates.
The seven design alternates were split between two demolition options including a milling demolition of existing overlay and a hydro demolition of existing overlay. Each option evaluated:
Rosphalt Polymer Modified Asphalt one with and one without Waterproofing Membrane
Polyester Polymer Concrete (PPC)
Microsilica Concrete
Epoxy Asphalt Concrete
Conventional Hot Mix Asphalt (Superpave HMA) with and without Waterproofing Membrane
The estimate considered the nature of rehabilitation work and its restrictions, particularly for a toll agency such as the TBTA, which requires work performance with minimal interruption of traffic and providing cost-effective, maintenance-free, and durable solutions. The phased construction occurred in three segments of roadway starting from the two outermost lanes and then replacement of the middle lanes.
The project covered 94,000 square feet of deck replacement.
