Harlem Hospital Center Modernization

New York, NY

The 260,000 SF modernization of the Harlem Hospital Center unifies a campus of previously isolated structures by creating one large complex. Ellana prepared cost estimates throughout the design process. During construction, we provided project controls services to TDX assisting with day-to-day onsite services, including change order estimates preparation, review of change orders, negotiations, estimates preparation and changes approval of off-site conditions and specific project changes.

A new unitized curtain wall encloses the pavilion, establishing a new main entrance for the hospital along Lenox Avenue. In addition to the improved performance that comes with a new facade, the focal point of the redevelopment is the 12,000 SF mural integrated into the curtain wall that welcomes visitors to the hospital.

The project scope featured a new seven-story pavilion and renovation of the existing Martin Luther King Building, including the chiller plant. The pavilion includes the ER department, trauma unit, dental operating room, general operating room, lab and mammography unit, bone density suite, cardiology diagnosis unit, endoscopy unit, bronchoscopy unit, cardiac catheter unit, radiology unit, burn unit patient floor, intensive-care unit, and pediatric intensive-care unit. Other work entailed interior alterations, MEP upgrades, and system tie-ins with the new building
